Kraken, along with other ETF issuers and prominent players in the crypto industry, opt out of Super Bowl advertising, reports Fox Business.

quick take

  • It’s anticipated that the majority of significant crypto firms will once more refrain from advertising during the upcoming big game, marking the second consecutive year of silence since the remarkable year for crypto ads in 2022.
  • Bitcoin ETF providers BlackRock and Grayscale won’t be advertising either, as their ETFs gained approval after commercial slots were already sold out, Fox Business reports.

In 2022, Coinbase reportedly invested $14 million in a 60-second Super Bowl ad featuring a moving QR code, but after a year without crypto ads during the event, it’s uncertain if the largest U.S. exchange plans to advertise this Sunday. Many other major crypto firms, including the second-largest exchange Kraken, have confirmed they won’t be running ads, as Super Bowl slots sold out in November, before spot ETFs were approved. This contrasts sharply with 2022’s heavy crypto advertising, especially in the wake of FTX’s issues. Some celebrities who promoted FTX, like Tom Brady and Larry David, faced a lawsuit alleging improper profits. However, some Web3 firms are finding alternative ways to promote their products. Dapper Labs, creators of NFL All Day, is promoting Super Bowl-themed NFT drops featuring retired NFL legends like Joe Montana and John Elway. The Super Bowl airs tomorrow, featuring the San Francisco 49ers against the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas, starting at 3:30 PM local time.
