ZachXBT, a pseudonymous blockchain investigator renowned for his thorough examinations within the crypto realm, has successfully reclaimed the majority of the funds from the sale of a rare DeGods non-fungible token (NFT).
The NFT was pilfered in May 2023 following the original owner’s unfortunate entanglement in a phishing scheme.
In a recent update on X, ZachXBT disclosed the results of his nine-month inquiry into the theft of the DeGods #3251 NFT.
The purloined NFT, auctioned off in May 2023 for 99 Ether, valued at around $177,000 at the time, has now been restored to its rightful proprietor.
“I’m pleased to report that I’ve managed to assist in recuperating a substantial portion of the embezzled funds, which have since been returned to the victim,” he announced.

ZachXBT’s investigations vary in duration depending on the complexity of each case. He often utilizes visual aids like diagrams to clarify the workings of phishing scams and to track fund movements, even after they’ve been laundered through crypto mixers.
“While the process of recovery may take time, it is achievable, and I’m always eager to share these successful outcomes,” ZachXBT remarked.
However, the esteemed blockchain investigator also disclosed his intention to wrap up his pro bono work in blockchain investigations soon. This decision stems from the frustration expressed by certain users on X who anticipated his assistance in recovering their stolen cryptocurrencies.
Despite reiterating that his services are offered free of charge, ZachXBT decided to discontinue his public service efforts due to the growing criticism. “This is precisely why I will soon cease all public service work,” he affirmed.
ZachXBT persists in uncovering cryptocurrency scams.
ZachXBT has emerged as a prominent figure in the cryptocurrency industry, offering his expertise in unraveling crypto-related crimes to individuals and even national authorities.
In October 2022, French authorities relied on ZachXBT’s research to apprehend fraudsters implicated in a $2.5 million NFT theft. Christophe Durand, the deputy chief of France’s national cyber unit, credited ZachXBT’s investigation shared on social media for bringing the incident to their attention.
More recently, ZachXBT conducted an inquiry into concerning behavior involving the influencer Crypto Rover. The investigation revealed that Rover disappeared after being paid to promote a crypto project.

The internet investigator claimed that the influencer deceived followers regarding his trading positions and took part in pump-and-dump schemes involving meme coins.
To confirm Rover’s involvement, ZachXBT traced transactions linked to Rover’s address. The analysis revealed correlations to posts corresponding with the transaction amounts.
Previously, ZachXBT accused YouTube personality KSI of engaging in pump-and-dump scams. These allegations stemmed from KSI’s posts discussing investments in crypto tokens. This included evidence such as a screenshot displaying his wallet offloading $850,000 worth of XCAD Network (XCAD) tokens shortly after endorsing them.
ZachXBT also highlighted a similar occurrence in 2021, where KSI expressed positive sentiments about Ethernity Chain (ERN) before selling approximately $350,000 worth of ERN tokens hours later.
